Gredos Sports Academy

Learn in the best environment

Gredos Sports Academy was born as a pioneering project in academic and sports integration. Combining the 50 years of teaching experience of the Gredos San Diego group and the experience of its founders, who came from the world of marketing, the creation and development of events and sports training.

In 1985, eighteen partners, teachers and non-teaching staff, founded the Gredos San Diego Cooperative. They assumed ownership of the school upon the retirement of its owner Julio López Herrero. The history of the Gredos Cultural Center, from which GSD Cooperativa originated, dates back to the 1950s. This center was located on San Diego Avenue. This is the origin of the name of the cooperative: Gredos for the Cultural Center and San Diego for the street.

Because of its strong presence in the neighborhood, GSD is an inseparable part of the history of Vallecas, in Madrid. Renowned personalities from the world of culture and sports have studied in its classrooms.

GSD Cooperativa manages ten schools in the Community of Madrid: GSD Vallecas school (opened in 1994), GSD Moratalaz school (September, 2000) and GSD El Escorial school (September, 2003). In the 2007/08 academic year, GSD Las Rozas and, in Ensanche de Vallecas, GSD Las Suertes opened their doors. That same year, an agreement was reached with the cooperative Educación Activa Complutense, which gave rise to GSD Alcalá. An educational center was built and started up with the same management model and educational project. In September 2008, GSD Guadarrama was added. In 2023, Valdebebas and Villa de Vallecas were added.

In 2013, GSD International School Buitrago became part of the GSD Community. This school is not only a center for Primary, Secondary, Vocational Training (intermediate and higher), Baccalaureate and International Baccalaureate, but also a meeting point for different cultures, nationalities and languages; an international training institution. Spanish as a foreign language (ELE) classes are taught in various modalities: from academic courses to short-stay programs, as well as camps with students from different countries, training for teachers in art or sports, etc.

In February 2018, GSD International School Costa Rica opens its doors; a decisive step in the internationalization of GSD Cooperativa, in a country with which it has maintained a relationship of friendship and cooperation for more than ten years. GSD International School Costa Rica is called to be a center with a global mentality, which gathers the best of the education of Spain and Costa Rica, combining it with the experiences shared with twinned schools around the world. In September of this year, GSD International School Pouma, Cameroon, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project of the Fundación Abriendo Caminos and the GSD Foundation, was launched. The GSD educational model has been taken to this country.

GSD Cooperativa also has two Nature Classrooms that also function as rural tourism centers: La Vía Láctea-El Corralón (in Casavieja, Ávila) and Sendas del Riaza (in Valdevacas de Montejo, Segovia), the latter owned by the Fundación Patrimonio Natural.

Gredos Sports Academy is located in GSD Buitrago and is a reference both in the area and in the Community of Madrid.
